For most people, they cannot distinguish symptoms from signs. They usually suppose that symptoms and signs are just one term used to describe abnormal appearance of a patient. Actually, they are quite different. Although they are both medical terminologies, symptoms and signs have different meanings. Symptoms are referred to what a patient feels, but signs indicate the results that a doctor, especially a physician, gives after examining that patient.

Besides recognizing diabetes symptoms in children, parents also need to know deeply about signs of diabetes in young children so that they can cooperate with the doctors in curing their children’s disease in the best way.
Children with diabetes will feel thirstier than usual, because they have to go for a pee frequently. As usual, urination and thirst go together, so parents must pay attention to their children in order to adjust the daily diets reasonably to balance the level of glucose in blood.
And other symptoms that lead to diabetes are nausea or vomiting, blurred vision, drowsiness, cramps or numbness in the toes and fingers, and abdominal pain. High level of glucose in blood makes the shape of eyes’ lens change, then the refraction. It reduces the ability of eyes’s normal vision. If this situation happens for a long time, eyes will become blind. Changes of eyes’s lens and infraction is supposed to be a sign of diabetes. Cramps or numbness is created by damaged nerve. It is the high amount of glucose in blood that makes nerve nearly devastated. If it lasts for a long time, the nerve cannot be rescued. Weaken nerve also seems to be a sign of diabetes.
In type 1 diabetes, there are common signs such as weaken kidney, high blood glucose level, destroyed protein in muscles, wasted calorie, itchy and dry skin, slow-to-heal wounds, infection.
Signs of type 2 diabetes are hard to find out. They are only diagnosed when a patient with diabetes has some complications such as coronary thrombosis, accident of blood vessels in brain, for-a-long-time skin infection.
The best way is that parents should let their children have blood analysis to know what type of diabetes they are getting. Therefore, the children’s condition is easily controlled.

Nowadays, diabetes has become one of the most dangerous diseases that most of us have to concern about. It harms not only adult’s health but also children’s one. Diabetes in children becomes more popular and is considered as an important problem. Diabetes in children is simply a common diabetes. It is a chronic disease that arises when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces.  (Insulin is a hormone made by the pancreas that enables cells to take in glucose from the blood and use it for energy). Failure to produce insulin, or of insulin to act properly, or both, leads to raised glucose (sugar) levels in the blood (hyperglycemia). This is associated with long-term damage to the body and failure of various organs and tissues. Once children get diabetes, they cannot be aware of their condition. Therefore, diabetes in children should be specially paid attention to. The symptoms of this diseases, the cause of diabetes in children and the way to prevent it should be well conscious of.
There are some common symptoms easily identified: frequent urination and great thirst; weight loss and extreme hunger; weakness and tiredness; and skin problems. Other symptoms include nausea or vomiting, blurred vision, drowsiness, cramps or numbness in the toes and fingers, and abdominal pain. When there are some of these symptoms in your children, they should be taken to the hospital to check their health problem carefully. If your children is soon diagnosed with diabetes, their conditions are easily controlled and you are not worried or depressed about the state of your children’s disease.
The reasons that make children easy to get diabetes originate in genetic factors, in immoderate or irregular diet, in obesity or in lack of movements. Diabetes tends to run in the family. “Diabetes is a hereditary disease passed on from generation to generation,” explained former health secretary Dr. Alberto Romualdez. “When there is a diabetic in the family, no matter how distant a relative the patient is, the characteristic is still passed on through the genes.” “It’s more of a fat-laden diet,” deplored Dr. Araceli Panelo, executive director of the ISDF. In fact, most parents even encourage their children to eat fatty foods such as fries, burgers and other junk foods available in fast-food chains. Obesity is another risk factor for diabetes. According to Dr. Mary Ann Lim-Abrahan, immediate past president of the Philippine Lipid and Atherosclerosis Society (formerly Philippine Lipid Society), most type 2 diabetic patients are overweight or obese and have too much fat in the abdomen. Children are also suffering from this type of diabetes because of the food they are eating. Lack of movements is also a cause of diabetes in children. If children only obey a reasonable diet without doing exercises or participate in any sport, it is easy for a great deal of fat to be stored in their stomach. It leads to the origin of diabetes and it harms their health gradually. Depending on each cause, there are treatment methods which is suitable for avoiding diabetes or preventing its complication. Your children need to be carefully under the care of doctors; otherwise their conditions will be more serious and it may become more dangerous than the state when their disease is diagnosed. There are two types of diabetes: type 1 and type 2, but children finds it easy to have high blood sugar in type 2. This case tends to increase more and more. It is hard to provide essential nutrients for children who have diabetes because they still need substances that help them grow. Hence, adjusting their diet is also a difficult problem. Pessimistic thoughts about diabetes also make the conditions worse. Most of people with diabetes are easy to fall in the state of depression because they always think that there is no hope for them. Therefore, keeping their mind optimistic is the best treatment that people with diabetes should practice before carrying out other treatments.
For those who have diabetes, in spite of their small injuries, they find it hard to cure because the diabetes makes the wounds difficult to heal. The gangrenous injuries can be cut out of the body to avoid influencing the others. Almost 16 million Americans have diabetes, but about one-third of them are not aware of their condition because they have no symptoms. Therefore, the best ways for this case is moderate diet with frequent movements to have the best health. And if your children have diabetes, they should be taken care of wherever and whenever to avoid being hurt. Their daily diet as well as their condition must be in the care of doctors.

The causes of diabetes are not fully known yet. Medical science is still uncertain of the reasons why the condition affects an individual. However, there are certain factors that was said to be associated with the disease.

Type 1 Diabetes – this diabetes condition is considered as an autoimmune disease. This means the body’s immune system acts against the pancreatic cells, thus hampering insulin production. The susceptibility of developing type 1 diabetes occurs within the family. Aside from that, there are certain viral infections that was said to cause the condition as well.

Type 2 Diabetes

  • Hereditary Factor: it was said that there is a strong link between genetic factors and type 2 diabetes. That means the condition may run in the family. Individuals with a family history of diabetes are 25% at risk of developing this condition.
  • Dietary Factor: it was also said that modern eating habits play a huge role in the development of type 2 diabetes. Excessive consumption of foods high in refined carbohydrates may result to the development of the condition. These foods include biscuits, bread, candies and cakes.
  • Excessive Weight: compared to the body’s muscle cells, the fat cells contain lesser insulin receptors. Aside from that, fat cells contain fatty acids that may slowdown the metabolism of glucose, which may lead to a condition known as hyperglycemia or an abnormal high blood sugar level that results to diabetes.
  • Sedentary Lifestyle: development of type 2 diabetes may have something to do with people’s modern lifestyle. Sedentary lifestyle means less physical work and more hours of sitting. Even after work, doing leisure activities is also considered sedentary. Research has shown that the development of type 2 diabetes is higher on inactive individuals.
  • Stress Factor: stress can greatly affect the body’s metabolism and this may cause a drastic change on the levels of blood sugar, thus resulting to the development of the condition.
